Chapter 4: Dark Side
(Dan's POV)
"We're here. Karen? Leifa? Can you hear me?"
"Are we ready to begin?"
"Dan, how can we be sure their whole crew is waiting inside?"
"We can't."
"I'm the boss here, not you. I will take you to the queen."
"The queen? And who might that be?" Cody spat out, confused yet judgemental.
"What have you done to them?! Bring them back!"
"Oh don't worry, they're not dead."
"You might be after all this, love."
"What the hell?"
I grab him around the neck, bravery struck through me. I pushed him against the wall, threatening to punch.
"Tell me why you're going after us?"
"We...we...were sent on a mission. We don't know who by though. Anonymous."
"Tell me!"
"We don't know."
I pushed him down, locking him to the closest lamp.
"Let me go."
"Well, since you won't tell us your assigner, tell me something else."
"Hmm. Let me think about that. How about, a story."
"I don't want your fairy tales. Or your happy endings. I want the truth."
We lived on the outskirts, because of my mother's 'secret'.
All families have their secrets. Mother's was her. My sister. The second born.
But the secret wasn't kept safe. They found out. They started coming.
They came one day, nothing particular to the world around, but very special to my sister. Her 2nd birthday.
They saw me first. I was standing outside. We all were.
They kept advancing. They kept coming closer, and closer.
Before her and her two knaves were behind me. Father was not far away.
He knew exactly why they were here. He tried to hide it all, but it wouldn't work around her.
My parents walked out from hiding around the corner. My sister was around the corner, but she was too young to try and be silent.
"13 and 14, you have betrayed my trust. You have broken a rule, and do you know what I do when you break a rule?" Her voice was cold and shadowed.
"Please, we'll do anything." My mother's voice was too shaky.
I was scared, but more so angry. They wouldn't harm my mother, I thought.
"Leave my family alone!"
"Whatever you want, take it."
"Oh I will darling." That's the moment she grabbed my sister. What happened next turned the table right around.
"LET GO OF MY DAUGHTER!" My mother shoved her, a bad move, but a move nonetheless.
They decided to target my father as well. My family was being killed in front of my own eyes.
I was a wreck. I hated everyone. I couldn't stand staying here.
I ran. Ran away. Or at least tried.
I looked back once, and my parents were long gone. Dead.
She had taken my sister, and her two evil minions were right by her side.
I was no longer with the people I knew. I was with the devil. The devil and my sister.
But, before I could escape, we were on the move. The whole hideout was a boat. And there was no escape from it. Unless I swam.
I woke the other two up, and we walked home. The moonlight was a gentle relaxation compared to his past.
"Oh, night guys. I'm going to crash for the night."
"What happened tonight? One moment this red guy was firing magic at us, the next we were all suddenly BFFs."
"Guys, calm down. He's just like us, a misfit. We can trust him now."
"I will avenge my self, you'll see. I will destroy happiness."
"I will leave my light side behind, and take the darkness with me."
"I will restore what was rightfully mine."
"You will not stop me."
"Not you, dear Danny boy."
"Not any of your misfit friends."
"Not even your new buddy 17."
"Oh you foolish girl. You think you'd be able to stop them?"
"Lucky I killed you early then."
"Talutah thirsty. I need to finish this job early. It's time."
"But first, I need to deal with her."
"I'm here. What next, master."
"Are we ready to begin?"
"Can we really trust this place? I mean, are we ready?"
"Trust me."
"We can't."
"Then, isn't going here a bad idea?"
"Why all these questions? Trust me for once."
We walk inside. I guess it's all or nothing. Good luck us.
"Well, well. Look who we have here. Detective Dan and his two little Watsons. Goodie."
"Time's up."
"Do you really think you can take on me? Ha." He stood up, raising his hand to his neck. "Looks like this job is done."
"Job? I'm sick of you destroying all of this!" Cody spat out.
"I'm just sick of losing my friends! First Sylvia, now Kriss, who's next?"
"Oh, well it was meant to be you." God, I hated the lookalike version of me.
"The queen? And who might that be?" Cody spat out, confused yet judgemental.
"Guys, these people, whoever they are, why do they all look exactly like us? But in red?"
"Oh sweetie, we are you."
"I need to speak to Dan alone now, please. Night, night."
"No!"
"Oh don't worry, they're not dead."
"You might be after all this, love."
"What the hell?"
I grab him around the neck, bravery struck through me. I pushed him against the wall, threatening to punch.
"Tell me why you're going after us?"

"Hmm. Let me think about that. How about, a story."
"I don't want your fairy tales. Or your happy endings. I want the truth."
"Well, let's take a trip down ole memory lane, shall we?"
"Whatever works."
"Let's go then."
(Red Dan's POV)
I had a mother, but we didn't go by names.
And I had a father.
Then, along I came. Their first and only child. You see, our 'kingdom' had a strict 'no more than one child' policy.
"Blood Red Clone 13 and 14, may I speak to you." I remember her voice piercing my heart, her snicker agitated and tough.
Before anyone could help, she was on the floor, being beaten up. They were hurting the people I love.
But, we were too far from the shore.
I spent the rest of my life under her reign. She forced me into being her slave, and when this job came up, I fled here to get away from her.
(Dan's POV)
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know you lost too."
"There's a saying I heard once: Good always loses because good has to play fair. Evil doesn't. I stuck by that through my whole life. But, when I took this case, I had to play on the opposite side, to fit in. Guess that didn't work how I planned."
I woke the other two up, and we walked home. The moonlight was a gentle relaxation compared to his past.
"Oh, night guys. I'm going to crash for the night."
"What happened tonight? One moment this red guy was firing magic at us, the next we were all suddenly BFFs."
"I have a name! Wait, no I don't, unless you count Blood Red Clone 17."
"Care to explain Dan? You didn't hurt him did you?"
"Guys, calm down. He's just like us, a misfit. We can trust him now."
"I did nothing wrong, my queen."
"When you nearly wanted to kill me. You wanted my throne, didn't you?"
"But first, I need to deal with her."
"Too bad. I already lost my best minion. Goodnight, Cora."
"Maybe it was best you died. You would have had to face me longer."
"And that's something darker than the dark side of the moon."
