Chapter 5: Dress You Up
(Ayana's POV)
"Zach? Toby? Dylan? Help me out here."
"Nope." Red Dan grumbled.
"Nick? Ooh, ooh...Eisen."
"Not your last name shortened Cody" Again, red Dan.
"Benedict? William? Gregorio? Ooh, ooh...KAREN!"
"Dan, these names stink. No offence or anything, but these names are nothing to dress me up with. And I don't think naming after you guys is reasonable."
"Well, red me, what do you want to called?"
"I don't know man, something my own, I suppose."
"You know what you need? A new look." Dan exclaimed, like the world would bow before him.
"Hmm, I could use one too." I whispered to myself, yet I bet they heard me anyway.
"Karen? You're always the stylish one."
"You lost me at new look. Makeovers!" She exclaimed, her face lighting up like New York on New Years Eve.
"Off to the Salon! Come on red me! We need to seriously find you a name too."
We all shuffled out, waking Leifa on the way out. She's such a sleepy head. Then, off we were to the salon, a breath of fresh air compared to the rotten stuff under my nose.
"Hurry up you two!" I yelled from the sidewalk, but to be honest, I wasn't doing that great myself.
"Hey, little girl, can you, maybe, scoot over a couple inches. You're kinda in my way."
"Excuse me? I deliver the papers for a living, and what do you do, have manicures and browse the catalogues? And you don't even clean up the old news!"
"Calm down."
When we finally got away, it was goodbye our house, hello the salon! Of course Dan drove, with Cody not far aside, but the rest of us were no-where in sight. Seriously.
There we were. Ready for change. Oh how I miss Sylvia and Kriss.
I was up first, which was splendid. I always enjoyed being first.
"Okay, guys, here goes."
"Don't I look so wonderful. Nah, I wouldn't dive into self-love."
"Hey, why am I still a Japanese schoolgirl. It's hideous okay."
"I think I can see some fat growing. I promise I wasn't snacking on ice-cream in bed last night."
"Okay, just this last look at my nails, then I'll begin, okay?"
"Yay! Goodbye old look."
"Oh my gosh! I look cute! Thank the heavens."
"Better enjoy this look. Oh, right, red Dan, you're up!"
"Why'd they have to dye my hair too? And give my demon eyes? And all this red. I understand we're the Blood Reds, but isn't a little enough. No, they're the Blood Reds."
"I have a nice look to work on though. This red gets dumped."
"Nice back, sir. Could use a lighter shade, perhaps."
"I could fall asleep right now. This look is so tired."
*evil cackles* "Let me at it."
"Whoa, that is one hell of a transformation. I actually sorta like it."
"Hold on, I'm getting something...Beau! Nah, too boring."
"I'll think of something, don't you worry mama. LEIFA!"
"Alright, I'm here, jeez. Look at this mess of hair."
"Who me? You think I'm stunning? You kid, of course."
"What? I'm supposed to hurry? Fine."
"Well, look at this. Don't I look marvellous today. Gotta love a good ole braid."
"I'm lovin' this new look. Danny's up!"
"Well, not much needed for me, thanks."
"Let's just get this over with then."
"Nice jacket. Nice scarf. Sorta matches the other me, I suppose."
"Karen? I have your favourite thing in here."
"Coming!"
"Hmm. Not sure if red is my colour anymore. Purple, perhaps?"
"Ooh, pretty wings behind me."
"Green? White maybe? Light blue? Oh my, this is one tough business."
"Do I look better from this angle?"
"Or this angle? Hmm. Better get to work huh."
"Wow. Purple really is my colour. And this dress? Stunning. Everything is stunning."
"You're right, mirror. I should stop flattering my dress sense, but you know it's true."
"Last one up, Cody!"
"I'll have the same as Dan, just a quick t-shirt change."
"Here we go..."
"Nice. Unique, I suppose. Well, not quite."
"Well, second Dan, have you come up with a name yet?"
"I'm sorta there. Henry? James? Taylor? Kayden? Any of them seem appealing?"
"Yeah, it's up to you. Anything's better than Blood Red Clone 17." I agreed, smiling.
"Yeah, I agree with Ayana. Make it yours, after all it is your name."
"I'll say you change your name to Tre, but that would seem silly for you."
"I'm still agreeing on Karen."
"I'll keep thinking, guys. I'll let you in on the surprise later."
The taxi snuck up on us like a cyclone, ripping into our hearts and tearing away the joy of today.
When we spotted her, we all nearly collapsed.
She kept walking. She kept glancing around.
She found us soon enough. She glanced towards us.
Kriss was back.
"The queen sends you all a message."
"Be careful what you wish for, my pretties, cause the genie is in town. And I've got three wishes left."
And with that, she fell. She fell into a ball on the floor. She fell into what we hoped was a deep sleep.
Poor Kriss.
I ran and held her in my arms. I knew she couldn't be dead, but she could. Who knows what's going on?
Everyone else watched on, secretly crying inside, I hope.
A simple dress up turned into a horror.
(Kriss's POV)
"Well, the way I see it, miss, is that you need something hip and antique. Something more mine." The stylist threw around, jolting ideas into the sky.
"Uh, I'm in my twenties. I'm not gonna wear granny clothes."
"I have a better idea. BLUE!"
"Well, at least you accepted the blue. But you kept the antiquity. Great."
"I think I'll makeover myself next time. You clearly only should work for elders."
"Much better. Blue truly suits me."
"I need to pee badly. See ya, stylist fairy."
"Da..Da...Da...Da...Daa."
"Kriss. Face me." The voice came from behind. I wasn't alone.
I turned to face the silhouette.
"It's not possible."
"But, why? Why are you...blood red?"
"The queen will see you now, Kriss."
"Please, why are you working for...her...and why are you...red?"
"All you need to know is this: I'm the queen's wing, and you won't stand in my way."
"You be a good girl Krissy, and you won't be in the firing line."
"My brother already is."
